چکیده

Abstract For nearly three decades, satellite nadir altimeters have provided essential information to understand primarily ocean but also inland water dynamics. A variety of parameters can be inferred via altimeter measurements, including sea surface height, wind speeds, significant wave heights, and topography land, ice, ice sheets. Taking advantage these with the long record data spanning multiple decades has allowed a diverse range societal applications. As constellation satellites grows, proven value missions user community now demonstrated by highlighting selection verifiable success stories. In this paper, we review selected stories that incorporate altimetry data, alone or in conjunction numerical models other Earth observations, solve key problem. First, define problem challenge each use case, then articulate uptake successful altimeter-based solution. Our revealed steady progress scientific stakeholder communities bridging gap between availability their actual address Highlighting serve further promote widespread adoption future such as Surface Water Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission scheduled for launch 2022. Knowledge breadth current utility observations help demonstrate continuing radar similar missions, particularly those expanded capabilities, SWOT.

Evolution of the Satellite Radar Altimeter

The radar altimeters flown on Geos-3 (1975), Seasat-l (1978), and Geosat-l (1985) have amply demonstrated the benefits of high-precision measurements of ocean-surface topography, both to geodesy and to oceanography. Two new altimetry missions are planned: the joint NASA/Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales TOPEx/Poseidon mission, to be launched in 1992, and the Navy's Special Purpose Inexpensive ...

Using Computer Vision in Real Applications: Two Success Stories,

We present two systems which are used today in industrial applications. While they are very different, and the two domains have no overlap, they share the properties that the problems they address were considered very hard to solve, and the requirements were very constraining, especially complete automation. We jirst present a system which automatically registers two sets of halfone color separ...

Cramér-Rao bounds for radar altimeter waveforms

The pseudo maximum likelihood estimator allows one to estimate the unknown parameters of Brown’s model for altimeter waveforms. However, the optimality of this estimator, for instance in terms of minimizing the mean square errors of the unknown parameters is not guarantied. Thus it is not clear whether there is some space for developing new estimators for the unknown parameters of altimetric si...
